JICA - Chirundu Bridge |

The Japanese government through JICA provided funding for the construction of Chirundu bridge. The contract was signed in November 2000 with Contractor Kajima Corporation. This project was completed in 2002. This bridge was commissioned by the President of the Republic of Zambia on 11 December 2002. The construction of this new bridge has facilitated improvement of trade relations between Zambia and her neighbouring countires by easing congestion at the Chirundu Border Post. |

The rehabilitation of the road is being funded by the European Union and covers a stretch of about 210km. The project commenced in Febraury 2000 and works completed in September 2002. The key trunk road is now in good condition and will result in improved internal and international trade. |
